Over the past 10 years, our country has been subjected to a relentless assault from one of its most dangerous foes. The Russian Federation has embarked on a year’s long campaign to undermine the United States, as well as the NATO alliance by launching social media campaigns, spreading disinformation, and supporting far right candidates. Unfortunately, the most effective use of this strategy has been within the US by the election of Donald J. Trump.
After a dismal term marred with scandal and failure, Donald Trump was voted out of office and defeated by Joe Biden. Instead of accepting the will of the people, he attempted to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power which resulted in the January 6th coup attempt in the capital. He sat idle for 3 hours while a hoard of his supporters attempted to tear our democracy apart. A dark day for our country, and for the free world as a whole. This treason permanently marred him in the eyes of the free world, and the constitution rendered him ineligible of holding office again.
Nevertheless after 3 years, on a campaign fueled by bigotry and hate, as well as accomplices on the Supreme Court, he returned to power. Now he is continuing to be the useful tool of the petty Czar once again, dismantling the NATO alliance, and tearing the United States apart. Even as he rots and decays physically and mentally in front of us, his lackies Miller, Vaught, Noem, and the rest of the rogue’s gallery have continued to assault the people of the US. They kidnap and exile thousands, launch chemical warfare in the streets, and tread upon the rule of law.
As a result of Trump’s policies, the United States has now become a pariah. Other peer nations no longer see us as a leader to be trusted, but as a threat to be contained. New trade and military alliances are being built around the US, not with it. Worst of all, if the treacherous, imperial invasion of Greenland were to commence, it would completely isolate us from our allies, permanently tearing the West asunder. We would be cut off, sanctioned, boycotted, and divested from. Such an event would make the recent geopolitical turmoil merely the prologue to a greater tragedy.
At home, the situation is just as dire. The White House has sent its thugs to descend upon US cities explicitly to terrorize the population. Proudly displaying neo-Nazi slogans, cosplaying as SS officers, and heeding no laws state or federal, ICE has become Trump’s private police force. Publicly brutalizing, even executing civilians, and bringing their communities to a scratching halt. Even children are not spared their vicious behavior. Utilizing chemical warfare, as well as psychological torture of being forced to watch loved ones, neighbors, and friends kidnapped and exiled. The goal of the regime is to push the people in this agitated atmosphere from protest to aggression, in order to justify further suppression of rights, all with the goal of ending democracy.
This is why Democratic governors are the last line of defense. With the Congress captured, and the Supreme Court notoriously unreliable, it is up to the states themselves to fight back. This is why Trump has made war upon the states. Threatening arrest of governors, attempting to deprive them of their National Guards, launching frivolous investigations, and trampling 10th amendment rights. The persecution of Gov. Walz is not the exception, it is the new rule. With Trump’s increasing desperation to avert the midterms, as well as conceal his egregious crimes with Epstein, Trump knows he must crush American democracy, and now all that is left to subjugate are the states.
Trump has already left generations of Americans with trauma. Children already being raised with active shooting drills, preyed upon by Trump’s allies via social media, and watching their neighborhoods be brutalized by ICE, will have an impact on them for the rest of their lives. Young people unable to find work as Trump once again destroys a great economy that was handed off to him. Young adults are now worse off than previous generations, due to Trump’s reckless policies. Older people are unable to get the hospital care that they need due to the healthcare infrastructure being dismantled by Trump and his cronies. The elders now look back at their descendants being left decadent, and with a grim future ahead. No generation has been left untouched by this White House.
The people are exhausted. Their lives and livelihood have been decimated over the last year. Now, the predatory federal government is weaponizing the anguish it caused against them. Terrorizing communities, prowling from state to state searching for whom to devour. With populations on edge, civilians have already begun to take up arms, and martial rhetoric has begun to spread. It will not be long before groups of civilians attempt to take defense of their communities against the regime into their own hands. Travesty that this would be, as it would give the dictator the perfect excuse to unleash the forces of the federal government upon desperate civilians feeling abandoned and with no other choice. The carnage unleashed would be harrowing, and upon the bodies of our people, Trump would build his dictatorship.
This is why Democratic governors are the blue wall, separating their people from an illegitimate predatory regime. The last bulwark between democracy, and an anarchic transition to fascism. With threats of funding cuts, increased brutalization of the citizenry, and pursuing a foreign policy that will leave us destitute and isolated, Democratic governors now more than ever must unite. Together, Democratic governors would be in control of the best in America: the most diverse states, the most prosperous, the most progressive and welcoming. This would make our Democratic regions of the country, blue fortresses against the crimson-stained storm that Donald Trump is leaving in our streets.
Utilizing interstate compacts, Democratic states can work with their neighbors and across the nation in order to protect democracy. Nationally, All Democratic states must operate with guaranteed protection of human rights. Laws to restrain and curtail ICE abductions, defend minorities from discrimination, and shield them from Federal aggression are musts. Blue states across the board must also pledge to protect and defend each other, refusing to cooperate with the regime, to enforce any unconstitutional laws, or have their 10th amendment rights impeded. They must stand together when attacked, and pledge to swiftly come to the aid of other blue states. Regionally, states can create interstate agencies and programs to replace those that the regime is destroying. They can also work as one bloc on issues impacting their regions, and importantly, send out delegates to our traditional allies to give their people legitimate representation on the world stage.
The time has come. Trump will not stop, and the window for action is closing. But, united together, the leaders of Blue America can rise to the challenge and build a better America for generations to come.
